HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Over the next two weeks, three previously suspended school bus routes on Hawaii Island will be reinstated, the state Department of Education announced Friday.
The following school bus route will resume service on Tuesday, Nov. 12:
Ka‘u-Keaʻau-Pahoa Complex Area: 1 route
The following school bus routes will resume service on Monday, Nov. 18:
Hilo-Waiakea Complex Area: 1 route
Ka‘u-Keaʻau-Pahoa Complex Area: 1 route
The routes will be serviced by provider Ground Transport Inc.
The DOE said the restoration of the three routes will bring the total restored routes to 115 — roughly 83% of impacted routes.
Officials are still working to restore the remaining 23 suspended bus routes.
The Education Department said Ground Transport is actively recruiting new drivers, leveraging the governor’s emergency proclamation to streamline the hiring process.
